Azerbaijan: A Hidden Gem Uncovered
When I visited Azerbaijan, nestled in the Caucasus region, I found a country on the cusp of becoming the next big travel destination. One week and countless new friends later, I can confidently say it was one of the most profound experiences of my life. The people were incredibly welcoming, especially towards Pakistanis, and their warmth made me feel right at home.
The food was a delightful discovery—rich, flavorful, and memorable. The museums, too, were meticulously curated, each offering a glimpse into Azerbaijan’s long and fascinating history, which stretches back thousands of years to ancient human settlements like Gobustan. Azerbaijan truly has something for everyone—you name it, and it’s there!
Every single moment of my trip felt worthwhile. I even stumbled upon the Museum of the World’s Smallest Books, a cute and surprisingly informative little place run by a passionate woman. Each site left a lasting impression: from Ateshgah, the Palace of Shirvanshahs, and the Carpet Museum, to the mesmerizing Yanar Dagh, the “burning mountain.” All these places are steeped in Azeri traditions and rich history, making me wish I could relive the experience all over again.
